I'll give the one that goes down a bit a miss, but eternal september
looks worth a bash, might register and check it out. Cheers dude.

Eternal September seems pretty damn good so far, have found a couple of
the missing replies and everything seems lightning quick in comparison
to giganews. Can't be bothered digging through for all of the stuff that
went missing but don't expect I should lose anything else. Many thanks
for the pointer dude.

Westnet/iiNet uses giganews , if you are having problems , then the best way
to fix it is by rebuilding the list of Ngs ( re-download a new list ) and
then deleting all your Ngs and then re-subscribing to your Ngs again .
You may have an Ng article ID clash between giganews and what you have on
your system which causes the symptoms that you have described.

You will also need to set your download limit to 500 articles otherwise you
will get articles dating back to 2003.

Also make sure you have set the right timezone for your system , it looks
like you have it currently set to daylight savings time.

I am with iiNet and I have not having any problem with giganews in the last
week , there were problems with giganews during the initial changeover from
iiNet to giganews , but those problems have been fixed and there is quite a
few people in iinet.general that keeps tabs on the news server's performance
and if there is a problem , then they make sure that it gets fixed.

Yeah, I was just going by the email they sent out, noticed the giganews
part in the header after I'd made that post, so obviously the "Westnet
server" is just a redirection to the giganews nntp nodes.

Did so straight off the bat, still kept getting problems so completely
wiped all record of the news-server from my news client including the
cached files and so on, problems kept occuring. Lived with it but got
the shits when I'd queued a heap of posts, shot them all off and only
half showed up. Seems most got through but for some reason seemed to be
passed straight onto other servers but not retained on giganews itself,
then started spotting numerous responses to responses but not the
responses themselves so gave up on Giganews. The retention period is
great, but kind of pointless when it loses so many posts.

Started writing my own news reader back in the late 90's because there
was a lot of functionality I wanted that didn't exist in the then
Netscape combined browser/nntp client/mail client I was using, but alas
work started encroaching way too much into my free time so that project
was never completed, and these days I'd be hard pressed to get as far as
setting up an nntp node even with out-of-the-box software, too much
hassle! :)

How do you manage with only 3 crossposts?
