If so, how much time it may take? There is no - "like at least 2GB". MS says you need 15% free for defrag to do it's thing: The volume must have at least 15 percent free space for Defrag to completely and adequately defragment it. Defrag uses this space as a sorting area for file fragments. If a volume has less than 15 percent free space, Defrag only partially defragments it.
From: Bob I on 23 Dec 2009 09:14 It will go a LOT faster if you MOVE a couple GB more off to an external drive. Binary wrote: > Is it possible defragment hard disk on win98(FAT32), 20Gb, and only > 1.5Gb free space? If so, how much time it may take?
From: Bob I on 23 Dec 2009 09:16 It will be slow, and how long, until it is finished. Hours at a minimum. Binary wrote: > Is it possible defragment hard disk on win98(FAT32), 20Gb, and only > 1.5Gb free space? If so, how much time it may take?

If so, how much time it may take? You'd probably get better answers by posting this in microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion. I think the answer is yes, it is possible. It will probably take a long time, but how long depends on a lot of things: degree of fragmentation, disk speed, CPU speed, what else your computer is doing at the same time, etc, etc. -- Tim Slattery Slattery_T(a)bls.gov http://members.cox.net/slatteryt

If so, how much time it may take? Best solution: Try it! -- -- We've already reached tomorrow's yesterday but we're still far away from yesterday's tomorrow.
