I had this issue with MSMoney some years ago. I had an old credit
card account that was closed out and I deleted that account. When I
did that, every EFT to that account also disappeared from my checking
account register, throwing the whole register off!!

While it is not an urgent question (since it appears all my closed
accounts did not convert into Quicken), would the same thing happen in
Quicken if I deleted an account which I had paid by EFT from checking?

TIA

The solution in Quicken is to HIDE the account. As you noticed, QUicken is
stubbornly insisting that when you delete an account ALL transaction to and
from that account disappear, not just the "internal" entries. The account
should therefore (my opinion) remain part of your Quicken. Just hide it to
get rid of the bother of having to pay attention to it, now or in the
future.

Thanks. Same solution as for Money. I see that my closed Money
accounts do not show in Quicken, so they must be hidden.

I think the key factor is which account was the transaction created in. For
example, if you originate a number of credit card payments from your checking
account to a credit card account, and then delete the credit card account, the
transactions don't disappear, they just go unallocated.

IIRC Quicken advises you that this will happen and asks if you want to proceed.

Hiding an account is definitely better.
