The partitioning scheme he presented implied that he thought
there was some kind of good reason for doing so.

What are you trying to say? I offered plenty of help - unless
he can explain *why* he chose to partition (and why he chose

This is definitely advisable on Windows, but
I see little advantage on Linux or OS X.

I have my main HD partitioned into Mac OS and Windows.

I have my backup drive partitioned into Time machine and SuperDuper.

I forgot to add- there is a third partition on the backup drive for
photos and other archives.
