If you have particular questions about MacSOUP, I'm sure someone in comp.sys.mac.comm would be able to answer them. -- Kathy - very happy user of MacSOUP

I've been using it since... Well, I'm not sure when I started, but it was ages ago, quite likely since version 1.0 was released. There's no other newsreader I'd be happy to use instead. Best shareware I ever paid for :-) It still amazes me how MacSOUP's bare bones plain text only _email_ client - which was more of an afterthought than anything - actually does a BETTER job at making threaded conversations readable than any other GUI email client I've tried. True references based threading, a really nice graphical thread tree, simple but highly functional UI, excellent regular expressions filtering on any header (weirdly more flexible than it's Usenet killfile), tagging of emails so you can read everything you want to one after the other, excellent views (unread, read, tagged, new, etc). Obviously all those features make it a great Usenet client, but how sad is it that Apple Mail and Entourage (to name just two major clients) fail miserably by comparison after all these years? I've had to give up using MacSOUP for email due to the unstoppable wave of ugly HTML email that has invaded even many mailing lists, but oh boy do I miss using MacSOUP. Apple Mail is so clunky by comparison :-( Well, enough raving over that. For some reason the majority of users think Mail, Outlook, Web-based Gmail, etc are as good as email gets. So it's clear these apps are never going to get any better and I just have to lower my expectations and move with the times *sigh* Regards, Jamie Kahn Genet -- If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate. |
