From: Artreid on 25 Mar 2007 02:23 Can anyone here tell me what the number directly after Pentium D means on Dual Core CPU's? I am seeing processor listings like: Pentium D 451 Dual Core LGA775 800 Mhz I'm assuming LGA775 is the socket type, 800Mhz is the FSB speed What does the 451 number represent? and do all these numbers have to match in order to upgrade a processor? Thanks

It's called the "processor number" and it's analagous to model numbers in other product lines. Larger numbers generally mean better performers, but you can only really rely on it as a unique identifier with a product line. http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/about/pentium_celeron.htm > and do all these numbers have to match > in order to upgrade a processor? Nope. Read your motherboard's spec sheet carefully to see what CPUs it will take.

Intel's P4 Model Number. They make a lot of different ones.
