So look at its management page and see what it tells you.

Is the Virgin device a proper router, or a PPPoE modem? Probably the
latter.

Do you have to provide a username and password for the Virgin connection?
If so, do you put it in the Virgin router, via a PPPoE setting on the WAN
connection of the Linksys?

Does the Linksys show that is has received a sensible IP address from the
Virgin router?
