Oh god, here we go.

I have now found the login. :-/

Not that it makes a lot of difference. But I'll have a fiddle.

Have had an Edimax wireless access point, a Belkin wireless router
(distress purchase when previous non-wireless router suddenly failed)
and an Airport Extreme. All have been connected to our NTL modem (yes -
it's that old) - and absolutely zero issues with that arrangement.

The Airport has been excellent - easy as anything to configure and works
very well (for us). And I would likely get another one should we need
to. But it should be pretty simple to get the Linksys working if the
hardware is OK. There is probably a way of doing a factory reset - and
that might be a good starting point. Also check for updates - and apply.

You might be best off just resetting it to factory defaults and going
from there. If it still doesn't work then it's failed hardware.

Fnar.

If it's been sitting fubar'd for 6 months then I would start with a
hardware reset.

Thanks guys.
There is definitely a more recent firmware, tho not sure how to install
when I can't get it online.

Also, will the factory reset kill the password and the 18 char wireless
password ?
