I have Windows XP Home edition installed on a computer and I have Windows 2002 XP Pro Upgrade w/Service Pack 2 CD. I have been trying to install it and during the installation I get the following message:

Installation Failed:

E:/I386/asms. Error message: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Fatal error:

One of the components that windows needs to continue set up could not be installed. The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.

Then it goes to a black screen and does nothing. I've started it twice.

Does anyone know what could be causing this or what might be the solution for this?

Thanks

Peter

I had the same problem before. It's your CD that is bad not the CD itself but
there is corupted files there. Can you go and see about getting a new CD
fresh copy and not the same copy you have thanks. I like helping out people.
Let me know how it works out for you.

I copied the CD to the hard drive and ran the setup from the hard driver.
Everything worked.

How were you able to copy the CD to the hard drive? I'm having this same
problem, but windows never comes completely up for me to be able to do
anything.
