From: jok on 2 Feb 2010 16:02 I'm flying EVA Air, LHR to BKK in premium economy (which has power for laptops), Boeing 777-300. I have ordered the magsafe airline adapter, but has anyone here flown in this aircraft and knows what cables/adapters I need? I know from seatguru.com it is 110v AC, but what plug do I need to fit? I don't want to take more stuff than I need. Cheers. J

From that, it sounds like it'll be a Yank plug. But to be covered, take your standard Brit plug/PSU and a universal adapter. For years I've used an adapter called (D'oh) 'Traveller International'. No manufacturer's name, although I seem to remember it was made in Ireland. It seems to work everywhere, including Europe, the USA and Australia. I can't find it on line- maybe it's no longer made? <http://us.kensington.com/html/5519.html> looks as though it might do the job. None of them are heavy or too large- or too pricey. -- Peter

None of them are heavy or too large- or too pricey. Thanks for your advice. Apparently the power outlets are on the inside of the armrests, so I need to get the slimmest plug solution I can get so it doesn't dig in to my leg. 12 hour flight.. -- J

Also from seatguru: <http://www.seatguru.com/articles/in-seat_laptop_power.php> In seats equipped with AC Power, all you'll need is the standard wall power brick that came with your laptop or other electrical device. The power on the plane is typically 110V AC and features a semi-universal receptacle that accepts the following types of plugs: * US non-polarized 2-blade plug (both blades are the same size) * US polarized 2-blade plug (one blade is bigger than the other) * US non-polarized 2-blade plug with Ground (aka three-prong) * European standard 2-cylindrical prong plug (two round prongs) -- Woody

Woody indicates it'll take a standard Euro 2-pin. Adapters for those are very small indeed. <http://www.lindy.co.uk/power/travel-adapters/?utm_source=google&utm_med ium=cpc&utm_term=adapter%2Bplugs&utm_campaign=lindy&gclid=CLmMu-TW1J8CFW lr4wodHzfKcg> part no.73099 The one I use on the continent. The only risk; the female plug might be recessed, and I'm not sure those adapters will go into the recessed type. -- Peter |
