From: JohnB on 30 Jun 2010 05:24 I have a 3G 8GB iPhone that is now out of warranty. It is running v3.1.3. I haven't updated to 4.0 yet given the many problems that 3G users have reported. I simply want to change the background wallpaper behind the icons from 'black" to one of my photos. I waited for OS4 because I thought it would allow that - well it does for the 3GS but not the 3G apparently, So it's time to Jailbreak! NB the iPhone is already unlocked (by O2) and on Voda. What would you guys recommend for doing this - preferably free and relatively simple to install. I don't sync to the G4 Powerbook very often (twice this year) so not too concerned about pitfalls there. Is there anything else to be aware of? Thanks for your comments -- JohnB

It's worth mentioning that the app used for putting backgrounds on your springboard - which is called winterboard - is more than a touch laggy on a 3G. You may or may not notice this or be bothered by it, but I refuse to install it, or any of the many other apps that require it, for this reason alone. It may also not do folders, I don't know. -z- -- email: nettid1 at fastmail dot fm

That is /only/ for wallpaper (as opposed to Winterboard which is for wallpaper , custom icons, and other stuff as well). I installed BossPaper a couple of days ago and it can use either wallpaper 'packs' (from Cydia), pictures from your photo album or the installed wallpapers. It'll let you transition between several wallpapers or just use a single photo/wallpaper. I also bought Categories off Cydia to give me folders so I can do this sort of thing (by using blanks & the 5-column tweak) - <http://img.skitch.com/20100702-fcjmgcrgtg8qgbe7jjrk7p8jwy.jpg> Cheers ...
