Hang on a bit- maybe your system is performing normally; I have no idea
what you'd consider to be slow or fast. But 'several minutes' certainly
isn't what I see.

Okay, I just tried it. Timings are approximate, but close enough for
jazz.

MBP, OS 10.5.8.

Computer and scanner on, but not scanning.

Put in a sheet of A4 covered in text. Hit the 'copy' button on the
scanner.

Epson Copy utility comes up on screen in ten seconds. I hit the 'copy'
software button, it makes the usual whirring and buzzing noises and I
have a 'Scanning' progress bar.

One minute after starting, the printer (HP 1022) starts to print and
five seconds later I have the copy.

Scanning for an electronic copy takes longer to carry out, of course-
de-dusting, colour fixing- but after pressing the 'go' button on the
scanner, the startup page also appears within ten seconds.

I've not tried scanning from within another application- always used the
Epson software which seems to work well, and installed without trouble
from the bundled CD.

Oops- sorry. I'm talking about scanning slides, hence the de-dusting
etc. That's mostly what I have done. Scanning a document for an
electronic copy is about as quick as photocopying with the addition of
the preview stage. But all the actions, such as selection, are nice and
responsive.
