From: Peter Ceresole on 31 Mar 2010 14:36 I have to digitise a whole load of slides (but not all at once) for Anne's lectures. I bought an Epson V500 Photo- the home one, not the Office one which is a lot pricier. I spent a lot of today getting familiar with it and digitising a load of what were, in some cases, very old slides, that I'd taken way back when. It's no speed demon, but the results are jolly good. I'm pleased with it. The ICE dust remover is first rate (part of what takes time, of course) and the colour correction is good too. The front-of-scanner buttons make photocopying a breeze. I'm having a little trouble making the software sing for me, but I'm sure that this is just me on day one. As it is, it works, and I'll get better at it. Altogether, I like it a lot. -- Peter

Very good but just wish there was a way to mount more slides at once as the process can become tedious fairly quickly if you have a lot to do.

The only problem that I have found with it is that it must be placed on a rigid flat base. If the desk or stand that you place it on is warped then it will, in some circumstances, jam when scanning. The scan head stops moving and the stepper motor stutters and you end up with smeared scans.

But I was colour correcting and de-dusting, which takes longer. -- Peter

But startup time is only really apparent in photocopy mode, using the front panel buttons. I just let it get on with it. Once it's on, I keep it on. -- Peter
