And for some reason, I've got a download speed hovering around 6-8kB/s.
32 minutes remaining can you believe it?

And that's with an 8 Mb/s ADSL line (8,128 Kbps upload at the mo).

So the servers are on a go-slow...

I don't know, firefox updating seems to be a law to itself.

On my macbook, I looked at your link and it didn't work, then I noticed
my firefox was 3.0 something (I don't often use firefox), so I said
update from the help menu and it went to 3.6.8 (and was quite quick, but
then it was late).

I just tried the update from my iMac, where I use firefox more often. It
was on 3.5.0, so I selected update from the menu, and it offered me
3.5.11. I tried again, it offered me the same. I went to the update
page, where the update to 3.6.8 was the one on offer.

Don't know. Maybe it is becasue the page didn't have a filename or
something, hard to say without finding another site that it did the same
on.

That's slightly more explicable.

It did, could tell that because the html file had a non-blank `bit
before the extension'.

How'd that help?

Rowland.

In the download. On the web address it has no filename before the ?
parameter switch. Maybe that was it.

instead of (say) index.html?p=370

If you find two things that fail in the same way you can often establish
what they have in common.
