If you are using the word liberal in its traditional sense then the other side would be authoritarian, and due to the strict rules governing its members Opus Dei might qualify. Well, in general terms, I feel that Jesus himself was quite liberal, both religiously and politically, and Martin Luther was religiously liberal. John is, as far as I know, a member of some offshoot of that sect. -- Favorite yoga position: Rosh hashavasana, the high holy pose Mac and geek T-shirts & gifts <http://designsbymike.net/shop/mac.cgi> Prius shirts/bumper stickers <http://designsbymike.net/shop/prius.cgi>

There's the "Love me or Burn" Jesus, but the one that I like is the Jesus from Luke. The Jesus of Luke was saying that all of those fundamentalists among the religious establishment of the day had it backwards. Sure the laws still matter, but they need to be applied with some compassion and common sense. So that is the Jesus I would like to believe in. But yes. John belongs to a liberal sect because he rejects the Church with Jesus himself ordained through a bad pun. Ah, yes, the Jesus who founded the Reform movement in Judaism some 18 centuries ahead of the rest. -- Favorite yoga position: Rosh hashavasana, the high holy pose Mac and geek T-shirts & gifts <http://designsbymike.net/shop/mac.cgi> Prius shirts/bumper stickers <http://designsbymike.net/shop/prius.cgi> |
