From: Summer1 on 12 Feb 2010 14:47 I thought that the lower the 'number,' the earlier it was manufactured-Are you saying that 3970 is a 'newer' model than 4200c even though it has a lower number and because 3970 was 'mass produced' and had complaints from users, that's why 3970 has a Vista driver? I use XP right now but I want an HP that has the 'capacity' to work on Vista in the future. From: Summer1 on 13 Feb 2010 00:56 I wanted to add something. When I checked drivers for HP 2400c, HP 3970, and HP 4200 for Windows Vista on HP's website, it showed a Vista driver for 3970 but not for 4200c or 3400c. That doesn't make sense since the 4200c model is a newer model than 3970. Why would a manufacturer create a Vista driver for an older scanner model but not a newer scanner model? Can an XP driver be used for Vista or do Vista users have to purchase a scanner that is compatible with Vista? From: Saucy on 13 Feb 2010 11:59 Often the XP driver will work for whatever device, especially if your Vista is the 32-bit version. There's no harm in giving the XP driver a try because it very well probably might work in most cases. Notice though here, for the 4200, that you have to make use of another driver as explained in the discussions. From: Summer1 on 13 Feb 2010 18:53 Here's what 'still' doesn't make sense: A user wrote that the HP 4200c was manufactured in 2001 and the HP 3970 was manufactured in 2003 so why does the 'later' model (4200c) have an earlier manufacturer year? (2001) Wouldn't it make more sense for HP to create Vista drivers for a 'later' and 'higher' model of 4200c since it is 'newer?' Did HP create a Vista driver for 3970 because it was 'mass produced' and they had a lot of complaints from customers so they 'gave' in to customer demand whereas 4200c was not 'mass produced?' Is it because 3970 was 'mass produced' which is why HP created a Vista driver? > > > > Why would a manufacturer create a Vista driver for an older scanner model > > but not a newer scanner model?
