If you want something stopped completely before it hits Exchange, an SMTP gateway would be the answer. Oh, there's a new RBL out. I think it works nicely. From: Daniel Jewel on 30 Mar 2010 12:10 Ace, As for the SMTP gateway, I was under the impression that the ISA SMTP Add-in would do exactly that... stop the "bad" hosts from ever reaching the Exchange Server... From: Cris Hanna [SBS - MVP] on 31 Mar 2010 11:40 As another option to consider Daniel, if you really want to stop them before they get to the server, dump ISA and get a true business class firewall router that includes UTM (Universal Threat Management). My personal preference for this device is the Calyptix Access Enforcer. It does AV, Anti Spam, Content Management and so on. integrates with AD. There are certainly other devices that offer this as well. With my customers I use the Castle and Moat analogy. The Access Enforcer is the Moat...must easier to defend the Castle (The SBS Box) if they don't get inside the castle. -- Cris Hanna [SBS - MVP] (since 1997) Co-Contributor, Windows Small Business Server 2008 Unleashed http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Small-Business-Server-Unleashed/dp/0672329573/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1217269967&sr=8-1 Owner, CPU Services, Belleville, IL A Microsoft Registered Partner ------------------------------------ MVPs do not work for Microsoft Please do not submit questions directly to me. It's still hitting the "server," so it's still got to process it even though it's not hitting the actual SMTP service. I agree with Chris about going third party. :) -- Ace This posting is provided "AS-IS" with no warranties or guarantees and confers no rights.
