From: Rick Rogers on 14 Aug 2006 06:36 Hi, If you are referring to the "r" option when booting the CD, that is to load the Recovery Console, basically a command prompt environment. To replace files there, use a command line like: expand X:\I386\ntoskrnl.sy_ %windir%\system32\ntoskrnl.sys Incidentally, ntfs.sys is not in compressed form and would simply be copied. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "silverfox1938" <silverfox1938(a)cox.net> wrote in message news:nPSDg.196394$k%3.30687(a)dukeread12... > Roger, > I replaced the files, *Ntoskrnl.exe & Ntfs.sys* from the install winxp-pro > cd, which is about 2/3 years old, just copied it to the old folder > (windows\system32) a > nd the new folder instal is (windows2). > I did attempt to try the *R* setting but could not understand the options > presented to me, maybe you could try and explain it for me?? > > Tks > > Charlie > > > > Rick Rogers" <rick(a)mvps.org> wrote in message > news:O1qZdkzvGHA.1808(a)TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> Hi, >> >> If you replaced files with older versions, that could be a problem. > "Repair" >> is the proper way to fix it, what part of the procedure were you having >> trouble with? >> >> -- >> Best of Luck, >> >> Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP >> http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ >> Windows help - www.rickrogers.org >> >> "silverfox1938" <silverfox1938(a)cox.net> wrote in message >> news:21PDg.196387$k%3.122760(a)dukeread12... >> >I crashed my system and could not access winxp-pro, could not boot-up, >> >it >> > was missing a couple of files, could not use the *Repair* option >> > because > I >> > did not known what to do. >> > Decided to install another winxp install and after that managed to > replace >> > the missing files on the first windows and when I tried to boot from >> > it, > I >> > get a BSOD and this message, *Sessions_Initialization_Failed* , Tech > Info: >> > Stop: 0x00000071 (0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000). >> > What can I do to repair this??? I copied the files that I needed but when I booted windows, that's when I got the bsod and the message, do you think that I have any chance of fixing it?? and if it's impossible, how do I delete the old windows installation?? From: Rick Rogers on 15 Aug 2006 06:51 Hi, Did you add any new hardware and what was the file you replaced? Did you check that it was the appropriate version for the system? Many files have been updated since the initial release via service packs, you may have overwritten the file with an older version. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org "Redfox8391" <redfox8391(a)emailnews.org> wrote in message news:5h0Eg.198238$k%3.162582(a)dukeread12... > > Rick, > > can you tell me how to fix the error message that I got (below) and what > it means??
