From: Mark A. Sam on 22 Apr 2010 18:38 Hello, A client gave me a laptop to set up with an Aircard and wants to be able to connect to his server remotely. There is nothing in the aircard software in which to configure a VPN. Can someone either describe how to configure the machine to logon to terminal services or set up a VPN or direct me to some instructional content? The server is Windows Business Server 2003 and I believe Terminal Services is active. I am not experienced in Networking and don't know where to begin. Thank you for any help and God Bless, Mark A. Sam
From: Kudrat Sapaev on 23 Apr 2010 03:31 Hi Mark, This connection has nothing to do with the Aircard. The Aircard is just connect the laptop to the internet. Once connected you can connect to the VPN or to the Terminal Service Server. In order to connect to VPN you need more details, I would recommend you to contact the IT support of the company providing VPN access to that user. With regards to the Terminal Services, you also need details, such as external IP address of the Terminal server and the user need logon information (credentials), after that you star Remote Desktop Client on the laptop, enter IP address, once connected provide login details and logon.

The IT dept of this company is a guy out of town, who doesn't respond to questions and infrequently shows up onsite anymore. I'm an Access developer and being handed of some of his tasks. Not a problem though, I just have no networking experience and trying to learn as I go along. If I can determine the IP address of the server, it might be helpful. I typed ipconfig as a command prompt, but don't think that is what I need. The IT guy has a static address pool set up in the IP tab os the server properties which includes that IP address. So if I can determine the IP address to access the server remotely, I think I can figure it out. From: Mark A. Sam on 23 Apr 2010 13:01 I think I am getting close. I found the IP address issued by Time-Warner and set up a VPN profile on the client machine specifying the IP, the domain name, and authentication. I think it is a matter of establishing the correct remote access policy on the server I am trying to access. Does that sound reasonable?
From: Kudrat Sapaev on 28 Apr 2010 04:36 Hi Mark, To be Frank I do not quite understand what you are trying to achieve. I would still higly recommend you to invite a specialist and ask him to fix everything and hand it over to you.
