From: Robert on 18 Apr 2010 17:43 Hello, Windows Server 2003 Following a catastrophe after a Windows Update, I want to forbid any future Windows Update, even the option when we shutdown the server: "Install the updates and shutdown". How can I do that? Thanks
From: Dave Patrick on 18 Apr 2010 18:08 Disable the Windows Update service. Start|Run|services.msc For the idiotic 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option. Start|Run|gpedit.msc Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows Update Do not display 'Install Updates and Shut Down' option in Shut Down Windows dialog box -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. From: Hank Arnold on 19 Apr 2010 05:32 Why is the "Install Updates & Shut Down" option idiotic??? I find it to be a very nice option. In an environment where the computers are shut down at the end of the day, it's very useful... From: JohnB on 19 Apr 2010 08:07 Maybe he was referring to servers. I'd agree in that case. From: Dave Patrick on 19 Apr 2010 09:31 Most servers are not shut down. If you happen to click this option and are a hundred miles away...... Should have been 'Install Updates and Restart' -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup.
