From: Fred on 21 May 2005 18:16 The exact message was "Shell 32 was not loaded by the Dll Register . Server entry point was not found.Dll Register server may not be exported, or a corrupt version of Shell32.dll may be in memory. Consider using PView to detect and remove." I have no idea what this means or how to use Pview to detect and remove. Frank, Did you notice in news:O7MGrQ3WFHA.3280(a)TK2MSFTNGP09.phx.gbl Subject: Re: Problem viewing web pages - urlmon dll Date: Wed, 18 May 2005 02:38:21 -0400 where I argued for referring to KB831429 instead of KB281679 that I wrote as well: <quote> Given the appropriate caveats for shell32.dll and msjava.dll the article could be suggested for all OS. ;) </quote> This is one of them. The OS in this case is Win9x and its shell32.dll is not COM aware. Therefore it has neither DllRegisterServer nor DllInstall as entrypoints. Therefore attempts to use regsvr32 on it in any way should be expected to fail. At one point KB281679 had this caveat in there but apparently it is gone again. Similarly, msjava.dll should have a caveat in both articles regardless of OS--not everybody has that module. BTW I probably should have mentioned KB249873 as a reference and pointed out its reference to the utility depends.exe. It's available on the XP Support Tools and from www.dependencywalker.com FYI Robert --- |
