Thanks very much. A very interesting toy for exploring what is going on,
but without a manual or some understanding of the underlying concepts it
is not too much help. There a lot of docs, but I am starting off along
this road...

What does Dashboard, Dock and Preferences use sync services
for?

Anywhat I have mostly solved my issues. I am a developer dabler! and
before posting I had tried wiping everything do to with "Address Book"
and Isync from /Library. This had no effect. In the end I made a backup
of /Library and wiped anything to do with iTunes, inaddition to Isync
and "Address Book". This did the trick. But I had been really worried
about losing my playlists and play counts etc, however they are all
stored within the Itunes-music collection and not within /Library.

All my "Address Book" groups are smart groups and they are not listed
within the Itunes->iphone->info tab for selection. Do "Address Book"
smart groups work properly with Itunes sync?


PS. W a r n i n g . . .

Several places around the web described how you can back up and
restore "Address Book" backups in vcard format before doing anything
dangerious or as a means of performing mass edits of your address
list. However they omitted to mention that by default "Address Book"
does not seem to backup notes etc to vcard format. This really caught
me out.
