From: Steve Cochran on 4 Jun 2010 15:54 That won't work. The account settings are in the registry in OE and even if he could run OE on the other drive, it would still look in the current registry and not in the old one (unless he boots to the old one). He can use Load Hive in Regedit to load the registry from the user on the old computer (NTUSER.DAT) and then read the account settings that way, except for the passwords, unless he gets another program to read those (passnif or somesuch). steve "Bruce Hagen" <BRH(a)nospam.invalid> wrote in message news:ecxTYBBBLHA.4400(a)TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Can you open OE on the old HDD? Thanks Steve, and for the other post. Had seen that method but am a bit nervous about messing with the registry. Something about having to unload it too!! "Steve Cochran" <scochran(a)oehelp.com> wrote in message news:5ECC787A-D246-49AF-A474-08D849605537(a)microsoft.com... You can do a File | Load Hive in Regedit on the old NTUSER.DAT for that particular user and then get to the appropriate registry keys (see www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx) and then export them and modify them in Notepad to match the current system and then merge those, which would give you the account parameters, but it won't give you the passwords back. You might be able to use PassSniff (search for something like that, its free, but I forget the URL and exact name) to retrieve the passwords. steve "bill" <bill(a)bill.com> wrote in message news:eyNMV9ABLHA.3880(a)TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > Ok, but if I could access the registry is there a way to get the account > settings? > > "Steve Cochran" <scochran(a)oehelp.com> wrote in message > news:B9078ED2-4F32-4058-9EB7-B2C0CF720A49(a)microsoft.com... > See www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#4 and www.oehelp.com/backup.aspx > > You cannot import the account information, as that is stored in the > registry, which is not easily accessible.
