You may have a problem if you try to use BootCamp. The Bootcamp
Assistant will attempt to partition your hard drive into two volumes,
one for the Mac OS and one for Windows. However, if you have a lot of
stuff already on your Mac, it may not be able to partition your drive
unless you defragment your system and use a defragger which also defrags
free space, so that you have a large area of free space available.
Alternatively you could back up your entire system, reformat it, and
restore from the backup, which will defrag it and then you can
repartition it.

Installing Windows into BootCamp is almost the only reason I can think
of for using a defragger on a Mac.

Please note that the Bootcamp Assistant will format the Windows
partition using FAT32. If you install Vista or Windows 7 on a FAT32
partition you will not be able to boot that volume until you convert it
to a NTFS partition. There is an easy, simple, reliable way to convert
from FAT32 to NTFS, if you can boot Windows. If you can't boot Windows,
the simplest way is to reformat the partition as NTFS and reinstall
Windows. You should be offered the chance to reformat the partition
during the install. Use it.

You may also be able to install Windows into a virtual machine using
VMWare, Parallels, or Virtual Box. Virtual Box is free, the other two
cost about $80. if you use a VM, you will not need BootCamp and you will
not care whether or not the volume is defragged.

Irrelevant and incorrect. Windows 7 is a patched version of Vista, and
in any case the OP specifically inquired about Vista. And the same
problems will apply to using a Bootcamp partition with either one.

I asked because I was curious to know why he chose it. It could be he is
planning to purchase Vista, or it could be he is unaware that lots of
bugs in Vista are fixed in Windows 7. There could be many reasons, which
is why I asked.

Or maybe it's because he's not aware of the alternatives or why they may
be better for him. If this were the case, I would be doing him a service
by asking and giving him more information.

You have no idea why the OP selected Vista and Boot Camp. That's why I'm
asking him and not you.
