And Martti is standing in a parking lot. 2)At about :30 Martti walks over to the others, notice the building in the background. There are on the second floor. ( top of trees are seen at beginning). 3) At 1:40 - 1:45 they show the "big chimes", there is no back net. 4) At 2:00, all the stunt men are on their backs, but its not clear how they flipped over. Also, no net. don

Satellite...$600 set-up, about $60 min monthly and reliability for squat.

Satellite isn't all that bad. Your least worst option if there is no chance of ADSL is to go for ISDN with two channel bonding. That is rock solid 128kbps over copper wire and a decent level of customer service. Regards, Martin Brown

On a sunny day (Wed, 13 Jan 2010 20:50:33 -0800) it happened Robert Baer <robertbaer(a)localnet.com> wrote in <j5CdnSRwNOuvP9PWnZ2dnUVZ_hJi4p2d(a)posted.localnet>: >> You *REALLY* need to get broadband, if it is not available try a sat link? > Satellite...$600 set-up, about $60 min monthly and reliability for squat. Well, yes, nothing is free. OTOH, just FYI, (lots of capitals), I dunno where you are [at neither], but in Europe (that is sort of east of the US), there are basically (not BASIC) 2 systems available. The first one is expensive, and consists of a dish with transmitter to upload via the sat, and receiver to download. the second is relatively cheap, and uses the landline dial up to select a URL, and then a bit later the download is read via a normal commercial PCI satellite TV card in the PC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satellite_Internet_access Such a card is available from say 70 $, and the services are about 30 to 40 Euro last time I looked, I have such a cared, and I can see what other people are downloading if I wanted to, and of course store it too. But I have no subscription, so no number to dial into and click a link... So I cannot request anything specific. I dunno if the US has advanced to that point yet, as of course we started early with digital TV. So, then your uplinks are slow with dial up as they always were, but download big files at much higher speed. As you share a satellite transponder with everybody else, there may be some delay before your file appears. Well, this was the situation here already ten years ago, I forgot the name of the companies that do these services (there were at least 2), but you could ask around or google. Some of those sat cards already come with preset settings for this, and some cards come free with a subscription. Linux has also full support for this, in fact it worked before I could even get a TV picture... Those transponder channels are just data channels, Oh, let me see: http://www.lamit.ro/one-way-satellite-internet-access.htm http://www.skywayusa.com/ 30 $?? |
