From: BeigeBond on 9 Apr 2007 11:04 Can someone from Msft answer that question? It's unclear from previous posts or from info on MSDN. On my system, WSS's directory management service seems to fail trying to write to the AD OU set up as described in the MSDN docs. I don't have Exchange Server and this post seems to say a Exchange AD connector is required: http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.sharepoint.windowsservices/browse_thread/thread/cb271ebcec14192c/8ec79ea0ebd17f81?lnk=gst&q=Sharepoint+supported+in+AD+2000&rnum=1&hl=en#8ec79ea0ebd17f81 Thanks!
From: Jerry Rasmussen on 9 Apr 2007 12:15 The answer to the subject is no you do not need exchange to email enable libraries. But if you want to use the directory management service it has been my experience that you will need to at least extend the AD Schema with exchange. This will create the entries in AD. Just Curios if you do not have exchange why do you want to use the WSS directory management feature? From: BeigeBond on 9 Apr 2007 13:21 Thank you. Perhaps it's ignorance on my part, but I'd like site owners to be able to specify the mail to address of the list. It's not clear to me how that that works without turning directory management on. Also, it would be nice to manage the names they are using (that approve/reject thing in Central Admin). But, since I don't have it working it's hard to know if that will work the way I think it should. Can you just turn off directory managment in Central Admin, set the alias for a list in list settings, and then just drop the email in c: \inetpub\mailroot\drop? That didn't work for me -- SharePoint Timer service posts an application error: A critical error occurred while processing the incoming e-mail file C: \Inetpub\mailroot\Drop\P3_20070406104647084300000001.eml. The error was: Bad senders or recipients. Thanks!
From: Jerry Rasmussen on 9 Apr 2007 14:05 Here are a few things I would do\check 1. Don't use Directory Managment. I don't think you need it 2. under settings mode change to automatic 3. In IIS cnfigure the SMTP service to acccept mail for the domain you are sending to. For example gmail.com if the smtp service is not setup to accept mail for your domain then this will not work. 4. Once this is configured create a list and email enable the list. So the email for this list would look something like this list1(a)gmail.com 5. Make sure you have an MX record pointing to the sharepoint server. BeigeBond(a)gmail.com wrote: > Thank you. From: BeigeBond on 9 Apr 2007 15:02 Thanks, When I do that, I get the following error from the SharePoint Timer service when email comes in: A critical error occurred while processing the incoming e-mail file C: \Inetpub\mailroot\Drop\P3_20070409144123051500000001.eml. The error was: Bad senders or recipients.. Any ideas?
