Which should have been obvious the first time he ran one of the apps and
got the message that Rosetta is required. Also, the fact that Office
2004 preceded Intel Macs by two years might have been a clue.

On the other hand, most people who upgrade to Office 2008 on Intel Macs
find it runs _slower_ than 2004.

But I said in the very post you responded to (it's right there in the
stuff you quoted) that the first time you ran one of the Office 2004
apps you got the message that Rosetta is required. I don't know how you
didn't notice that, especially when you then had to download and install
it.
