My wife's MBP has decided to turn itself off. Completely. It appears to
be doing that about every 10 minutes or so. It seems to be a close to
when the power saver puts it to sleep. This has just started today. It
is plugged in, the battery is at 100%, the indicator at the plug in is
green.
It is an old (roughly 6 months or so after initial release), running
updated 10.5. I have saved system and console files, but are very long
and I did not want to post them unless someone thought they would be
useful (I did not see anything of interest, but then it was all
gibberish to me anyway-grin).
Any suggestions of what might be happening.

Try resetting the Power Manager and zapping PRAM

I'll try that. However, I was playing with it a third time and it
turned itself off WHILE we were working on it, lost the stuff we has
typed. That would seem to lessen the chances it is power mgt. wouldn't
it??

Forgot to say thanks for the help... until now.

There was a defect in some mbp's that caused this. Check on apple's site
to see if you have one of the effected models, as it's a recognized
defect and apple will fix it.

Otherwise, check your fans. Try installing the iStat menus shareware,
and then see what your processor temperature is. I had a bad left fan,
and it was causing my system to reach temperatures of 201 degrees
Fahrenheit, and then of course the system would shut down to save
itself. Fixed the fan, problem solved itself.

Might work for you.

Good luck!

Joshua
