pay as you go and prepaid generally mean no-contract plans. at&t's pay
as you go voice plans require periodic refills but can be set up as
auto-renew.

That could be an excellent solution, do you really know of these
adapters that allow you to insert a "Micro SIM" in an USB dongle which
uses the bigger "Standard SIM"? Could you tell me where to buy it,
preferably from a store where I can buy it through the Internet?

another option is get a 3g wifi router and use your dongle in that,
creating your own wifi hotspot for all of your devices.
