Apple only rents low fidelity (VHS quality) movies to computers. Amazon and Netflix have HD rentals. My Panasonic TV has Amazon rentals built-in but it can't do surround sound. All three have spotty selections. -- I won't see Google Groups replies because I must filter them as spam

All three have spotty selections. If you include AppleTV - or even if you don't, it's possible to get 720p content on one's computer or ATV, from Apple. -- John McWilliams

I haven't found a single 1280x720 rental for computer playback on iTunes. I've only seen resolutions in the vicinity of 640x360 and 640x480 with stereo sound. Some older videos are 320x240.
