From: Bobby Johnson on 4 Feb 2009 10:54 The reason it's taking so long to come out with a 64-bit Flash player is because this whole situation is kind of a Catch-22. People won't sink money into a 64-bit platform until there is 64-bit software for them to use, but the software companies won't get serious about producing 64-bit software until enough people have the hardware to use the software since they need a return on their investment to make it worth their time. From: Mark H on 4 Feb 2009 11:49 Simple... Convince Microsoft not to include IE7 x86 version on the x64 DVD. Then, everyone with x64 installed will scream at Adobe. As long as x86 is the default, why would Adobe convert? It ain't broke; don't fix it. The alternative is to get the webmasters to stop using flash. Most of the time, the use of flash is not needed. I block flash in firefox because too many adverts are in flash, and you can't read a webpage with all that stuff wiggling around. I got one webmaster to remove flash from his buttons. I mean seriously, what could be simple text COULD be replaced with a little graphics (i.e. click on an image), but flash on the buttons? There there is the issue of mobile surfers. Most cellphones can't do flash. The ones that do are using level 2. Some people think that the youtube videos you watch on a phone are flash, but they are some other format (3GP or something like that). Basically, if they didn't use flash, the problem would go away.

Where I have to use IE, I prefer to use 64-bit IE (over 32-bit IE) precisely because neither Java nor Flash worked... I've yet to see a website where the use of Flash actually helped. -- Steve Foster [SBS MVP] --------------------------------------- MVPs do not work for Microsoft. From: Bobby Johnson on 5 Feb 2009 09:41 I have to agree with Steve 100%. The only thing these plugins and addons do is bog down the whole internet. Lets go back to the days when there were none of this garbage. And don't forget popups and all this trash advertising, cookies to track your use, and a multitude of other bandwidth hogs no one requested - at least I didn't!
