From: John Byrns on 17 Mar 2010 15:35 Hi All, I was running "TurboTax 2009" on my PPC MacMini with OS Version 10.4.11 (Build 8S165) when the program suddenly quit leaving me with the following error message to report. Exception: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (0x0001) Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE (0x0002) at 0x00000008 Can anyone explain to me what this means, is there a problem with my computer or with "TurboTax 2009"? Luckily this failure only occurs during a section of the program where they are trying to sell me something and it is easy to skip that part of the program thus avoiding the problem. My taxes are relatively complex, when I run my Son's relatively simple taxes, the program runs the problematic section without any problems developing. -- Regards, John Byrns Surf my web pages at, http://fmamradios.com/

That kind of thing can sometimes indicate a problem with the computer hardware (or with the drivers), but... If it is happening consistently in the same place on the program, it is almost surely a bug in the program instead. If it were a problem with the computer hardware, you'd expect it to be more random exactly when it showed up. -- Richard Maine | Good judgment comes from experience; email: last name at domain . net | experience comes from bad judgment. domain: summertriangle | -- Mark Twain

Yes, it happens consistently at the exact same point in the program, given that you don't change the input data, if you change the input data in the right way it consistently does not happen at all. What does this error message mean, that the program is trying to write to a memory location it isn't supposed to write to? Or does the mention of "KERN" mean that it is OS 10.4.11 that is writing where it shouldn't? -- Regards, John Byrns Surf my web pages at, http://fmamradios.com/

Or does the mention > of "KERN" mean that it is OS 10.4.11 that is writing where it shouldn't? I would say that it is TurboTax. Somehow it is trying to write to address 0x00000008 which is definitely out of bounds. I don't really remember the details of error messages from 10.4 well enough to be sure, but the way this is repeatable along with that address makes me think that this is a TurboTax bug. -j -- Jeffrey Goldberg http://goldmark.org/jeff/ I rarely read HTML or poorly quoting posts Reply-To address is valid |
