From: RJeremy on
Since yesterday, some large emails (ranging between 8MB and 17MB) have not
been delivered to us from internet senders. My mail size limits have been set
to 20MB in all the various areas that these limits are specified.

All our mail is relayed via Trend, who filter spam, etc, and then forward to
us. My online Trend console show that these specific large emails are "Queued
for Delivery", since yesterday....still no delivery to our mailboxes. I've
been in touch with them but they tend to write us off as something wrong on
our side.

How can I go about confirming that these mails have not reached us? How
about fixing it...what can I do to resolve this as large mails are a daily
occurrence? I've had a look at the logs, and there is no reference to these
mails...which indicate to me that these mails have not even touched my server
yet.

Please help.

depending on the type of content an email with a 17MB attachment, when
converted to mime format, may be 25-30MB.

Mail is not a file transfer mechanism.

I agree about the size increase due to the MIME overhead. It's usually
around 33% increase of the actual file size.

I have a question regarding the smaller attachments, such as around 11
MB, which should have gone through. If it was done correctly in
Exchange 2007's three locations that it must be changed, then my
thought is Trend's limit is not set properly.

To RJeremy - exactly where in Exchange did you set new limits? Was it
in the following areas?

1. Organization, Hub, Send Connectors Tab, "Maximum Message Size
(KB)."
2. Organization, Hub, Global Tab, Transport Settings Property,
"Maximum Receive Size (KB) and Maximum Send Size (KB)."
3. Server Configuration, Select Server Name at the top, Receive
Connector tab below, In the Connector called "Default ServerName"
Properties, Maximum Message Size (KB). If any clients are using POP3
or IMAP4, also change it in the "Client ServerName" Connector.

Did you also change it in Trend, or are you waiting for a callback
from Trend?

4 locations actually Ace,

Highly compressed files often end up larger than 133%.

Thanks, SuperGumby. The 4th spot is the mailbox settings, but
controlling it at the Transport settings I think are fine, unless you
are targeting a specific user that is abusing it.

I was thinking in the terms of 33% larger than the original size,
which mathematically equates to 133% of the original size. Unless my
math is wrong?
