What's astonishing to me is all the goodies that She left us for free:
oil and coal and gas neatly packaged in the ground; nicely separated
minerals (iron, aluminum, gold, sulfur, quartz, uranium); trees and
grass and fruits and veggies and packaged meat products everywhere; an
atmosphere that's clear enough to see the stars and dense enough to
allow flight; all those beautiful clouds and waterfalls and sunsets
and things, and one cute little moon that makes perfect solar
eclipses. We're close enough to the triple point of water that we can
wake up on Sunday and drive (in an oil-powered, iron and aluminum car)
for a few minutes west and surf, or a few hours east and snow ski.
We're in a safe place near a nice star in a peaceful galaxy,
un-scorched by supernovas and un-swallowed by black holes and rarely
whacked by comets or rogue stars.

And some people keep whining that this isn't good enough.

Life used to be cheap, what with disease and marauding enemies and
world wars and stuff. As natural hazards are reduced by vaccines and
antibiotics and blood pressure pills and UAVs, it makes sense to pay
some attention to other stuff. I want to live a long time; don't you?

Do you wear your seat belt?

I had to box up two cats today to take them to the vet. Ajax was fine,
but I had to chase Comet for 20 minutes, caught her four times and
lost her three. I'm bleeding on my arms, chest, and one leg. Cats are
an absolute menace.

You should thank me for not abusing your mother. Oh wait... I did...
