I just took an interest wireless recently, put a Slackware 13.0 install
down on a PC with an ath5k card and could barely connect with anything.
There have been a tremendous number of improvements on the Atheros modules
since the base 2.6.29.6. I built a 2.6.32.3 and booted - what a difference
(no more ndiswrapper or mdawifi). The AR9285 chipset shows supports by the
new ath9k module.

I'd consider building a new kernel under Slack13.0 on that EEE before
giving up entirely.
