Now if I could just access and listen to them with some tiny, fast audio
player application, without having to fire up a bloated 170 MB+ app that
does a bunch of other stuff I have no interest in doing. Is there such?

Hmm. I could probably diddle you something up in Flash. Have you tried
flv?
