Somewhat old question, which I haven't seen answered yet. Finally got around to investigating my copy of the 10.4.6 CD set. DVD Player is located here on my CD set: OSInstall.mpkg EssentialSystemSoftware EssentialSystemSoftwareGroup Essentials.pkg Applications DVD Player.app (It is version 4.6.5, which is the same as what is installed on my PowerMac running 10.4.11 with all security updates applied.) You probably also need some frameworks to support it, but I haven't gone hunting for them. DVD Player should be present on earlier versions of the 10.4 CD set, because it installs a system compatible with all PowerPC Macs that can run 10.4, and some of them would be able to use DVD Player. -- David Empson dempson(a)actrix.gen.nz

Apple only licensed the DVD decoding software for use with internal drives. If your Mac does not have an internal DVD drive the OSX installer will not install DVD player. You can install it with pacifist, but some versions will not play DVD's in external drives. You can also install VLC, www.vlc.org and use it to play DVD's. With the exception of some early Intel Macs, VLC will play DVD's from all zones, DVD player requires a hardware and software hack to do so. Some people never see DVD's with different zones, here they are very common. Geoff. -- Geoffrey S.
