question for someone. i have a MBP i bought a couple years ago, and as
long as i can remember its fan runs whenever its in use. unlike a
standard MB my gf has...

is this normal? or should the fan only come on when it reaches a temp
threshold?

thanks

Many of them have been fixed by emptying the print queue.

Also go to Utilites/Activity Monitor and make sure there is nothing running you
don't want.

New word I coined 12/13/09, "Sub-Wikipedia" adj, describing knowledge or
understanding, as in he has a sub-wikipedia understanding of the situation.
i.e possessing less facts or information than can be found in the Wikipedia.

intel macbooks & macbook pros run the fan when idle. it's probably not
noticeable unless you listen closely. the powerpc powerbooks were able
to be used without any fan at all unless they were under load.

My MBP runs fans loudly when CPU is stressed. A lot of websites using
Flash can cause this. I ususally just quit apps until it cools down.
Open Activity Monitor to see what's using CPU; it might be something you
don't use or want. Keep checking the monitor when fans speed up.

In normal operation, if my fans are running, I don't hear them.

ok, so it sounds like the answer to my question is "Yes". (note to
others: the question was not, "Is my CPU under heavy load?" it
was..."Does the fan always run?")

and its *quite* noticeable. im laying in bed, notebook on, house
quiet, and fan is running. for a web browser. reading static HTML.
same setup on an intel MB does not run any fans.
