Can anyone tell me is the mask rom used in the 8250 drive? or can I
use a 6530 that is blank or has other code written to it.

The 6530 in a 8050 or 8250 has specific code in the rom. You can not
use a blank 6530 or with other code in the rom part.

In the 8250-LP version the 6530 is on a adapter board with a separate
rom who bypasses the rom part in the 6530. In this situation it make
no sense what type of 6530 Riott is used.
