From: Mike Walsh on 21 Aug 2007 05:53 Again, Windows Server 2008 is a beta and so it shouldn't be discussed here. According to JanM it is necessary *in Windows Server 2008* to install WSS 3.0 first and only then MOSS 2007. (Which isn't the case for Windows Server 2003) But again that is something to be discussed in a beta newsgroup for Windows Server 2008 - not here. Mike Walsh WSS FAQ www.wssfaq.com / wss.collutions.com no private e-mail questions please Ivan wrote: > Hello! > > I've got exactly the same error as JanM, though I'm installing MOSS 2007 on > the Windows Server 2007 computer. From: Mike Walsh on 21 Aug 2007 05:55 In that case, please ignore my reply to yout previous message. You can upgrade WSS 3.0 to MOSS 2007 (in Win Server 2003) but as I wrote earlier in this thread if you are installing from scratch there is no need to first install WSS 3.0 and it is much better to just go straight to the install of MOSS 2007. From: Ivan on 21 Aug 2007 06:06 Mike Walsh, I'm sorry I've misprinted the name of my operating system and don't know if it's possible to edit posts here... I'm installing MOSS 2007 on the Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition (SP2), not "Windows Server 2007". I have installed WSS 3.0 first and now I've got this configuration error with "Failed to create sample data". I've got 1 GB of RAM and 100 GB on the Hard Disk, but actually I do it on the Virtual Machine on the VMware Server... So, is it sensible to try to install MOSS 2007 on the machine without WSS 3.0 installed? Thank you "Mike Walsh" wrote: > Again, Windows Server 2008 is a beta and so it shouldn't be discussed here. > > According to JanM it is necessary *in Windows Server 2008* to install > WSS 3.0 first and only then MOSS 2007. From: Ivan on 21 Aug 2007 06:26 I see.. Ok, thanks! I'm going to try it now. And as I'm going to do it again on the new machine (only Windows Server 2003 R2 with all updates and Framework 3.0 installed on it), what do you think about pre-installing SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition instead of SQL Server 2005 Embedded Edition, which comes with MOSS 2007, before installing MOSS 2007? I want to be able to work with databases of my SharePoint Server in future. From: Mike Walsh on 21 Aug 2007 06:36 No problem - I just assumed it was a misprint for 2008 when it was a misprint for 2003 ... If the total amount of memory your *machine* has is 1GB you won't be able to install MOSS 2007 in a VM. If you have more memory in your machine you can allocate at least 1GB to the VM and the MOSS install won't at least fail through lack of memory.
