It's certainly much better to install MOSS to use SQL Server 2005 than
to use the built-in version of SQL server 2005 Express.

It's a different situation with WSS 3.0 because it's built-in (embedded)
version of SQL Server 2005 Express ("Windows Internal Database" doesn't
have any database size limits (which the version in MOSS has).

I got it... Thank you for the instructions!

I'll write if the configuration is successful.

I've got 1,5 GB Ram on my PC, and I've allocated 1,1 GB for Virtual machine
with SharePoint.

Hello!

I've installed the SQL Server Standard Edition 2005 (SP 1) on the separate
machine (only Windows 2003 R2 EE (SP 2) and no WSS 3.0 on it) and now I'm
going to install MOSS 2007 on the same machine.

After I've entered the Product Key and accepted the License agreement, the
installation programm asks me to choose "The type of installation" , the
opportunities are:

1) "Full - all components are installed. It's possible to add severs and
create a server farm."
2) "Web -..."
3) "Standalone - all components are installed on this computer (including
SQL Server Express Edition). Adding of Servers is impossible"

These opportunities are translated from Russian into English, so they may
sound a bit strange...

I want my MOSS 2007 to use SQL Standard Edition 2005, which I installed
first... Does that mean I've got to choose "Full installation" and create a
server farm, and then in the MOSS 2007 Configuration Wizard I need to connect
my MOSS 2007 to the SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on this computer?
Or shall I choose "Standalone", so it would connect to my pre-installed SQL
2005 Standard Edition and won't install the SQL 2005 Express Edition by
itself...

Thank you,

Ivan

Full. You will be asked which SQL Server 2005 to connect it to and you
will choose the SQL Server 2005 on that machine.

("Single server" uses the embedded SQL Server that for MOSS has a 4GB
database size limit. You don't want that.)

The second option is rarely used as Full is often recommended even for
Web Front Ends.
