From: Wretch Fossil on 6 Jun 2010 05:54 Martian meteorite ALH84001 contains fossilized trace of collagen fibril Martian meteorite ALH84001 is found to have contained fossilized trace of collagen fibril, which is marked as object D in Figure 1 below. The figure has been copied from an article written by NASA scientists (note 1). Object D was a Martian collagen fibril for the following reasons: 1. It was imaged from meteorite ALH84001, which originated from Mars. No scientists disputed that. 2. Object D measures about 200 nanometers across and shows cross striations that resemble striations of terrestrial collagen fibrils at magnification of 23,000X as viewed with TEM (Figure 2). A terrestrial collagen fibril ranges from 10 to 300 nanometers in diameter (note 2). 3. Terrestrial collagen fibers could be mineralized as shown in the micrographs of an Israeli scientist (Figure 3). 4. The characteristic striations of collagen fibrils in Figures 1 and 2 are easily visible when the two figures are enlarged to 200% of their original sizes, as shown respectively in Figure 4 and Figure 5 below. Note 2: See an illustratin of collagen fibril in Figure 6 at http://www.wretch.cc/album/show.php?i=lin440315&b=28&f=1176877105&p=113 Collagen fibrils dont show striations if they are not imaged at high enough magnification. An example is in Figure 7 at http://www.wretch.cc/album/show.php?i=lin440315&b=28&f=1176877106&p=114
