I am using a site license. The Matlab License Manager does not seem to work behind my home router. When I contacted the site administrator he said that other students had been complaining of the same issue. Is there any particular ports that could be opened on the client side to enable proper communication w/ the MLM?

I didn't see anything that jumped out at me about this issue in the License
Administration Guide, but I only briefly scanned it. I would suggest that
the administrator check the appropriate section for the type of the license
being administered, and if he doesn't find anything he should contact
Technical Support for suggestions on how to resolve that issue and to
request that this information be added to this guide.

What are the exact symptoms and error messages? Is there anything in the license log file on the server that can help?

This could be related to the issue about not being able to run Matlab
through a VPN; I think I saw that issue was still open in 2010a.

The port number used for the licensing is not inherently fixed, but
depends on which port has been configured in to the license.dat file for
that FEATURE line. See for example the documentation at

When I try to execute Matlab, I receive a -96 error code. If I place my system outside the NAT using my router's admin console, then Matlab will checkout the license successfully.

I do not know anything about the server (as I am the client, not the admin), other than the ports specified in the license.dat file, which are 1701 and 1711. I have actually attempted to open these ports on the client side - just a shot in the dark - but it had no effect.
