Is there any way to remove/block/alter this in outbound mail for
Exchange 2003 to avoid showing the internal server's host name to the
world?

Hi Nate:

You could change the FQDN of the default SMTP VS. There seems to be some
different opinions on doing this. I personally have done it to resolve an
e-mail delivery issue because certain recipient systems rejected the message
since the internal FQDN didn't match up with the external FQDN. Based on
that particular setup, I didn't really have any other option.

For your situation, you probably don't want to change it since it's not
causing any issues as is. See "Myth 3b: Modifying The FQDN of the SMTP
Virtual Server" at http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2005/02/25/380481.aspx.

Appreciate the response but the SMTP VS FQDN doesn't seem to affect
the Message-ID portion of the header. It does affect a different
portion of the mail header but unfortunately not the Message-ID
section. I know Exchange 2007 has the ability to block this portion
of the header but I don't see any easy solution for 2003.

Just noticed that even your link states modifying the SMTP VS FQDN
will not affect the Message-ID. :o)

Duh! My bad. I'm not aware of any way to modify that part of the header.
That's really getting down to a lower level of Exchange operation, so I'm
not sure if there's a supported interface to change that.
