Sounds like you have done everything correctly and I do not have a solution for you. I'm wondering if the .wmv file may be corrupted in some way. One thing I would try instead of dragging the double red arrow to trim the clip would be to split the clip and right click / delete the unwanted portions. Here's some info on splitting if you need it. Play the video by left clicking the "Play" button under the view screen. You will see the Playback Indicator (vertical line) advancing across the timeline. Click the "Pause" button at the point where you wish to split and type... Ctrl+L or click the "Split" button at the bottom of the view screen. (you can also make adjustments by dragging the Playback Indicator) Make as many splits as you want and remove the unwanted clips by right click / delete. And...Movie Maker 2.1 only displays every other frame. In order to see all frames, the following info from PapaJohn may be useful: === Movie Maker 2 shows you every-other-frame when doing project editing. MM1 and Movie Maker in Vista show you each frame. It's usually not a problem when skipping over the in-between frames, but sometimes you notice a flickering frame in a clip that is a 'stray', and you can't see or cut it out. If you apply the Slow - Down - Half video effect to a clip in the timeline, you are then seeing each frame rather than every other one. You can see the problem frame and split it out. Then remove the effect from the clip to return it to normal. -- J. I have been messing around some more. So I now have a Windows Movie Maker project. I can open it in Windows Movie Maker and play it through, no problem, it is just over 4 minutes long. My only option to produce a movie file is to use Publish Movie. I have tried Publishing to both .wmv and .avi and BOTH formats fail after 19 seconds when played in either Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic. I deduce that the problem lies in the Publish Movie stage which fails to produce a successful output file. I have also found other posts of users with the same problem. I am surprised that all these compatible Microsoft products and formats do not appear to work. regards Petergy

It may be worth a try to import the .wmv file into the following freeware converter and choose WMV as the output format. Maybe the new version of the file would work better for you. (FWIW...it's always a good idea to create a System Restore point before installing software or updates) Format Factory http://www.pcfreetime.com/ (FWIW...you may want to uncheck all the boxes on the final screen) After downloading and installing Format Factory... open the program and choose an Output Folder... (this is where you will find your files after they are converted) Drag/drop your .wmv video file onto the main screen... Select 'All to WMV' / OK... Click...Start...on the toolbar... Good luck. -- J.
