I have my Replicated folder set up with the Staging path set as default:

D:\USERS\DfsrPrivate\Staging
Quota: 4096

D:\USERS\DfsrPrivate\ConflictAndDeleted
Quota: 660

I want to move these to another disk set as per the following technet
article <http://blogs.technet.com/filecab/archive/2006/03/20/422544.aspx>
which states:
"It is also a best practice to locate the staging folder on a different
spindle to prevent disk contention.".

In doing so I also plan to increase the staging quota to about 750GB (and
Conflict & Deleted to ~100GB or more).

Can I simply change the staging path from "D:\USERS\DfsrPrivate\Staging" to
another disk set? Is there any hard set rule that says the
"DfsrPrivate\Staging" folder must be in the folder that is being replicated?
Thank you.

Yes.

Is there any hard set rule that says the

Thanks. So I assume it is simply a matter of stopping the replication
service and changing the path. Can (or should) I move the existing staging
folder to the new location or have it rebuild from scratch? If I adjust the
path, move the existing folder and restart the service would it pick up
where it left off or throw a fit?

If you stop the replication service and copy over the folder, change the
path and restart the replication service it will sort it out. If you stop
the replication service, change the path, delete the old folder and start
the service it will rebuild the folder as needed.
If you copy over the folder and it takes too long to sort out the folder
move then you can delete the folder and have it rebuild it.

I have done it both ways and I haven't heard which would be the "preferred
way" but I usually try to have DFSR rebuild the folder on the new drive.
