From: richard.townsendrose on 1 Apr 2006 07:57 Mike When approaching Scotland in a company car, please ensure your ciggie is OUT, but if you are in your own car, then keep on smoking ! My local (Old Smiddy in Cathcart) has seena 40% RISE in food sales, and NO LOSS of drink sales - however council have warned tham that may be fined if there are cigarette butts within 20 FEET - thought we were metric - of the edge of the building - so smokers are being sent to the car aprk with a bin ! Next law ??? Or will this be Poll (T)Axed ? Richard

From: Geoff Schaller on 1 Apr 2006 19:57 Gary, > Why wouldn't you simply set a flag that says "I'm using X as my driver" > and switch code/drivers accordingly? Did it years ago, btw. Sure - but you have to have both wrapper libraries available. That's my point. If you are writing to the Oracle it is about as different as you can get to writing to SQL DMO or the MySQL api. There is the beauty of ADO - as long as there is an OLDEB provider for the engine, the amount of similar code is greatly enhanced. The process is a lot easier. We have taken that approach so the apps we write will work against MS, DB2, Oracle and SyBase. We only have one wrapper class and that is to ADO. > My stuff was created, tested and deployed quite a bit before these > excellent tools were, and if my stuff continues to work, why should I brak > my existing, working code, tested and deployed code? I'm not sure you should, nor why you are suggesting it. > As to ciggie ads, have you noticed what it's like in EU? Yes - and I think the situation is amusing <g>. Geoff

Mike, Geoff One problem with Scotland is the INCOMING pollution - smokers or not ! Of all sorts... Best NONE of them smoke whilst driving - makes using a mobile phone seem positively safe. And as for all the polis cars with a driver munching a sarnie, with a can of irnbru in the other hand. may be thats why they need flashing lights. But thats not as bad a risk as an overloaded polis volvo estate on its heels ! check penrith ramps ! Richard T-R |
