From: ZielonySBS on 15 Oct 2009 04:16 I have got a problem with a backup. After couple of hours running backup fails with errors. It has nothing to do with space because I do the backup on NAS. Whats more I had been doing the backup with non chcnged configuration for couple of weeks so far. Here is a last bit of the log. Is anyone had this before? From: Larry Struckmeyer [SBS-MVP] on 15 Oct 2009 08:43 Hi: We have not seen this one for some time. In some cases it appears to be transient or intermittent, which is even more baffling. There was a fix to Backup Assist that fixed this, but if you are not using Backup Assist, then it is something else. Can you confirm that you are using Small Business Server, that you are using Small Businesss Server Backup per the Server Management page? Here is the case that provided a definitive answer: http://www.winserverkb.com/Uwe/Forum.aspx/windows-server-sbs/37728/Error-backing-up-the-System-State But there are other possibilities: Also, confirm that the target is NTFS, not FAT or FAT32? And, that you have run chkdsk /f /r on all drives? And that the error is not giving you the answer? That the files and folders listed are not corrupted, and the permissions are set correctly? There is also this: The post was about XP, but the underlying programs are the "same". http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/trbl_xp_ntbackup_cnapodssccrd.htm The error may be caused by the COM+ System Application or one of if the components it interacts with. Try: Start (or restart) the service "COM+ System Application" Even if this appears to restart successfully, look in the event log at the Application Log. Resolve any errors generated when the "COM+ System Application" was restarted. -- Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so that others may benefit. Hi, Thanks for your post and Larry's great input. I also agree to check the error message related services. Try to set the "Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider" service and "COM+ System Application" service to "Automatic" and "Started", then check this issue again. Also, if there is any CD disk in CD ROM, please remove the CD from the CD ROM drive and take a back up. If possible, try a new USB drive and backup. Last but not least, please temporarily disable 3rd party backup and anti-virus applications , as well as update the SBS server to the latest version with necessary hotfix and updates. Please have a try and hope this helps.
