From: Here In Oregon on 13 Feb 2010 23:57 All I can say is I have built many computers in my day and the ASUS P6X58D Premium is the best motherboard the world has ever seen. Stunning!!! Oh,... and love at first site. Now my wife is jealous and wants me to build her one and I am. Newegg, do you want more of my money? <g> Okay, I am considered sick when it comes to the amount of time I do research on componentry. I probably spent 160 hours in the last 4 months researching and the build took me less than a day including my preferences with bios, software, imaging, etc. All of my system builds are future proofed and last a long time. i7920 8 cores with hyper-threading Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm SSO CPU Cooler Corsair Dominator DD3 6GB 4 Hard Drives 2 new huge Western Digitals and two smaller and older Maxtors Corsair HX620 EVGA 9500 GT Plextor 24X DVD/CD Nexus and Noctua case fans Win7 64bit Stock CPU speed is running at 34C; I will overclock a bit once I get settled in with some of my digital recording applications and additional audio hardware. Also this system build is extremely quiet and my dB meter cannot even register a reading. Ambient room noise is louder. LOL!!! Computer is running flawless in every way and was an easy build except for a flawed Win7 product key code and I was on the phone with Microsoft for two hours with three reps from three countries. Just wanted to chime in and give my 2 cents for you folks who might be on the fence and are afraid to make the jump. Jump!!!! Just go ahead and jump. Jump!!! Your friend, HIO P.S. I have no affiliation to the aforementioned companies except I bought their products. They can send me a check if they want to and so can everyone that might have benefited from this post. ;-)
From: Bob Donald on 14 Feb 2010 01:17 Funny you should post this, I just got back from Microcenter this afternoon. Picked up the i7 860 and 4 gig's of Corsair XMS3 <going to grab another 4 gig tomorrow since I'm gonna go 64 bit on it> with an msi p55-cd53 board. I'm going to use it for my SageTV server and virtual machines for our main system and other VM's I want to play with. I dont do enough with <nor run into any problems with my current core 2 duo daw> to justify spending the cash on upgrading it, but these core i7's sound pretty awesome from what I'm reading. I went with the 820 for economical reasons; the price was the same for the 860 as the 920 <$199 at MC>, but the 1366 boards were at least $100 more and either one is probably way more than I need. Looking forward to building this thing, although I dont think I'll overclock it. I am reading some pretty good reviews from the OC'er's though, and I did get 1600 memory so if this machine ever gets recycled I may play with it, the MSI board has an OC genie. I've just never been a fan of overclocking on a main system, so it will have to wait. I bet your system is smoking already without it though! The Nehalem CPUs are the bomb; 731 million transistors. Named after an Indian tribe, a river and a bay here in Oregon. Oh yeah, Intel is widely present here as well. Overclocking is not what it was years ago. Intel, Asus, Corsair and everyone else expects us to overclock these beasts. They were meant to be overclocked,... hard. <giggle>
From: Sue Morton on 14 Feb 2010 10:16 I'm glad to hear WLM is working for you, many people like it. It's not so great for me. I may be in the minority but there are features in OE that are not supported in WLM, and I use them. I still haven't found a better replacement for OE so I'm using WLM on a couple of machines with Win7, but still looking. Sorry HIO it's not the 'bomb' for everyone :-( YMMV! -- Sue Morton "Here In Oregon" <HIO(a)nospam.net> wrote in message news:hl884b$nb2$1(a)news.eternal-september.org... > Windows Live Mail with Win 7 is the bomb as well. I remember looking at The Bat! quite some time ago... I use all plain-text email so that part is fine for me too. I use IMAP4, if it doesn't support that, that could be why I didn't want it. I'll have to look again and see what my issue was with it, as I don't recall now what it was. -- Sue Morton "Glennbo" <vdrumsYourHeadFromYourAss(a)cox.net> wrote in message news:Xns9D1F602A270CCBrownShoesDontMakeIt(a)69.16.185.250... > In news:hl945h$b3m$1(a)appyface.eternal-september.org the killer robot > "Sue Morton" <867-5309(a)domain.invalid> grabbed the controls of the > spaceship cakewalk.audio and pressed these buttons... > >> I'm glad to hear WLM is working for you, many people like it.
