From: Peter James on 27 Mar 2010 10:03 I transferred all my settings and documents over to my new iMac 21" from my old G5 iMac. With no problems except I can't print using my Brother -2030 laser printer. System preferences shows the printer set up as the default printer, and it's status set as "idle". The print queue shows the 3 documents I tried to print, but without success. I downloaded the latest printer drivers from the Brother site and installed them. But to no affect. I still can't print. Can anyone advise or help me please? Thank you, Peter -- He spoke with a certain what-is-it in his voice, and I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. P.G. Or a parallel (Centronics) cable? 2) Or does it connect to the network? If (1), does it still work when reconnected to the old G5? If (2), what network protocol does it use? If TCP/IP can you ping it from the iMac? Tell us the answers to these questions and we will try to help. -- Graham J

I can't connect it to the old G5 alas. I've wiped the disk and just re-installed a bare OS X ready for the new owner. > If (2), what network protocol does it use? Sorry, how do I do that, and how do I find out the printers IP address? -- He spoke with a certain what-is-it in his voice, and I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled. That may have been a mistake - doesn't Apple provide the Brother drivers? -- Chris

So, USB: Start with the simple end of things. Does the printer show up in System Profiler, Hardware/USB? When it's powered up and plugged in, I mean. If no, does it show up there when you plug it into the old Mac? Cheers - Jaimie -- I always wanted to be someone. I should have been more specific. -- Lily Tomlin |
